Junior Achiever Is Out of Control - in a good way
previous | next

Local faves, the 8-piece Out of Control Rhythm & Blues Band, will be performing a benefit on Sunday, October 21 for Junior Achievement at Northern Lights in Clifton Park. Seven of the band’s members are seasoned OOC performers but one is new and considerably younger then his partners in musical crime. He is 16-year old saxophone phenom Nate Giroux who just finished his junior year at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School. Yes, he is OOC trumpeter Pete Giroux’s son, but this is no case of nepotism.  Even at his young age Nate has already studied and performed with some of the world’s greatest jazz artists and educators including Pat LaBerbera, Dick Oatts, Bobby Shaw, Terrell Stafford, Bill Cunliffe and Dick Ford to name just a few, and constantly performs alongside musicians twice his age. In fact, Nate was just named the top high school jazz tenor saxophonist in NYS.

Aside from being principal clarinetist in the BHBL High School Band and Orchestra and  lead tenor in the BHBL Jazz Ensemble, Nate has played lead tenor in the All-State, Area All-State, All-County, and Suburban Council Jazz Ensembles. In 2006 Nate studied at the Skidmore Jazz Institute where he was awarded the Dean L. Harrington Memorial Scholarship. This summer Nate attended the William Patterson University Summer Jazz Session in New Jersey.

So, if you want to hear a Junior Achiever (who’s out of control, in a good way)come to Northern Lights on Sunday, October 21 to experience The Out of Control Rhythm & Blues Band with Nate Giroux.
